Tea J. Moore

Tea J., also known as the Louisiana Soul Singer, hails from Varnado, LA.  She comes from a long line of musicians including her mother a music director/pianist/vocalist  and father a trumpeter.

From Houston, TX, by way of Varnado, LA, northeast of New Orleans, Tea J. Moore started singing at the early age of four. She is daughter of Tresslar Moore-Lewis (William Lewis) and the late Treanders Mondy, granddaughter of Maevella Moore (late Oneal Moore) and Ora D. Mondy. Discovered by her kindergarten music teacher, Mrs. Franklin, who could clearly see the potential in her at an early age, Tea J. was introduced to the stage and began performing in several school plays and musicals. It was that exposure that led her to begin singing in home and various community churches and eventually join “Voices of Joy Interdenominational Choir,” a community’s gospel choir at the age of twelve. While on tour with the community choir, Tea J. had the distinguished privilege in sharing the stage with gospel legends, Alondo Draper, opening for John P. Kee, and various gospel artists.

No stranger to the big stage, Tea J., at the age of sixteen, auditioned and was casted to perform in her first big Broadway play, “Ain’t No Woman Like the One I Got” in New Orleans, LA. She would soon thereafter appear on television shows such as Unsolved Mysteries, 20/20, ID and compete in various local and national talent shows.

At age seventeen, she enrolled in college at Dillard University. There, she joined Dillard University’s Concert Choir under the leadership of the incomparable S. Carver Davenport. It was only a matter of time before she would step foot onstage at Dillard and begin wowing audiences again with her soul-stirring solo performances. Tea J. would go on to star, in a lead role, in the Broadway musical, “Once On This Island” and sing lead solo in “The Gospel at Colonus.” Having received much exposure and experience while in the public eye, it came as no surprise when she was selected to sing the National Anthem at the 2001 NBA All Star game hosted in New Orleans and New Orleans Hornets game in 2003.

Moore, moved to Houston. TX, after Hurricane Katrina. Though in a place much different from home and with many new faces, it did not take long for her to adapt to her new home and begin to make a name for herself. She was back on stage, this time singing background vocals Mary Griffin and Gordon Chambers (Grammy award winning songwriter) and other local artist. Tea J. would later branch on her own to embark on new endeavors. She was blessed with the opportunity to lead in song during the 2008 National Baptist Convention.

For years, Tea J. has given a riveting onstage performance with the production, “Dancing In the Street-A Motown Review” in Houston, TX also BCOL’s Production “Fame…Motown Revue and More” in Clarksville, TN, where she portrays singers, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Donna Summers, Teena Marie, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Stephanie Mills and many more.

In 2014, Moore founded Mobile Music Education (MME), an arts program designed to help underdeveloped fine arts programs through music, arts and education; in hopes to give back to the community like those who contribute to her growth within the music industry.

Tea J. Moore undoubtedly has a beautiful strong soul singing voice and is a natural on stage with impeccable stage presence, she is certainly a force to be reckoned with. The world has yet to see all the Louisiana Southern Soul Singer has to offer.
